Living Greek Online Enrollment

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

We are glad that you have decided to participate in Living Greek Online, an intensive online summer Greek program organized by the Paideia Institute for Humanistic Study, Inc. We are very much looking forward to working with you to help you develop your knowledge of Greek as we get to know you virtually.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR ONLINE EXPERIENCE

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The course will run from July 3rd - August 18th, with a one week break from July 31st-August 4th, Monday - Thursday for a total of 24 sessions. Here is an overview of the program schedule::

  • Daily, you will meet in a small group for two hours with a Paideia faculty member for intensive reading and discussion of the set text. You will also devote some time outside of class to read and prepare your texts.
  • In addition to the scheduled classes, the program will offer at least one optional online guest lecture in English on topics related to the course theme. This lecture will be streamed as a live webinar and followed by online discussion in English. It will be recorded and made available to program participants who cannot attend the livestream.

Small groups will be formed based on participants’ experience with Greek, time zone, and availability during the time of the program. Please be sure to indicate this information using the button below so that we can place you in the appropriate section.

PREREQUISITES

This course is for beginners only. Students who already know some Ancient Greek should consider our offerings through Telepaideia or our Living Greek in Greece travel program.

BOOKS AND RESOURCES

Texts, Translations, and Commentaries of The Meditations

The course will use The Paideia Institute’s new Living Ancient Greek self-paced online curriculum, which is scheduled for publication in the spring of 2023. A free subscription to these online materials is included in the cost of tuition. Your instructor may provide additional materials and commentaries for your group.

Suggested Dictionaries

All instructors will refer to entries from Liddell and Scott’s Greek-English Lexicon, easily accessed online through the website Logeion, which also exists as an app

Preparation

Students will be asked to memorize the Greek alphabet before the start of the course.
